all right demon. bring it on!

Tarot card reading with Miss Renee did not disappoint.

Okay, so before I get into the cosmic outcomes of the reading, a brief description of just what this tarot reading entailed. Miss Renee lives way up north, so we took a long long bus ride to her house. We were a little early, but not worries - she let us in right away. Apparently she was just gaming anyhow. And let me just say that Miss Renee is rad. She swears a lot (and occasionally and adorably apologizes for it). She exudes this low-key soothing energy. She is sex positive and talks about gender in good ways. Her aesthetic, tone of voice, vibe - it all worked. Basically, I like her style.

She lit a candle, sparked up some incense, and bathed us in sage smoke. She did my reading first, then Mel's. She asked me to say my name three times while she did some deep breathing and shuffling. Then she laid out ten cards - two in the middle and eight in a circle around them. I've done some searching online to try to find an example of the spread she used, but no luck so far. She told me about the meaning attached to the cards in each position and asked how that might apply to my life.

At first glance, I was a little underwhelmed by my card draw. Not a lot of awesome major arcana cards - no fool or death or lovers for me. Just lots of pentacles and wands. It's impossible to summarize all the cards said in this space, but here are the choice nuggets:

1. I need to clean it up and clear it out. I got a judgment card in my environment space, a "call for the dead to rise." It's time to reap what I've been sowing with all my choices and actions, time to be accountable and demand accountability. Time to turn my energy toward moving forward. Miss Renee's overall summary of my reading was this:

"All right demon, bring it on." It's time to deal with my shit. the last 8 months in Portland have been about healing and relaxing. Now I've got to get back in gear and clean my room. (Literally and figuratively.)

2. I need to get my finances in order. Duh. But now that the 4 of pentacles showed up as a foundation card and the 6 of pentacles as a water card, it's time to get serious. (As far as I can tell, pentacles are like coins and have a lot to do with wealth.) I need to know what I am worth, be a shrewd negotiator, and learn to draw boundaries. Poverty is bullshit, and I don't have to do it anymore.

3. It's party time. the outcome card for my whole spread was the 3 of cups, which means I need to celebrate with my friends, eat good food and enjoy life. I need to make a space where I am comfortable doing these things. I've got really great people and energy in my life, and I need to enjoy it.

Other things I learned:

- Each zodiac sign has a key phrase. Miss Renee told Mel that the key phrase for Capricorn is "I use." (Google tells me that the Scorpio key phrase "I desire." Awesome!)

- Mel should move to Portland for reals. (Okay, so she might not have gotten this out of her reading, but that was my interpretation.)

- Air signs are heady and thoughtful.

- I need to get my chart done. Next month...
